[it seems superficial to think so, but kenma is so pretty that sometimes it hits him like a punch in the stomach. his face is still a little red, and he's smiling as he tucks a lock of his hair behind his ear, and it leaves him momentarily breathless. so unfair. he hides his reaction by studying the little figurines.]

Ah, was this...what you were out doing when I came to pick you up in the rain the other day?

[the thought makes him smile, because he knows that kenma doesn't really like going out; to know that he was so devoted to finding just the right thing makes him want to treasure the gift even more.]

[ And Kenma is completely oblivious of this - he'd never considered himself anything special in any regard, average at the least, so it wouldn't occur to him in the slightest. He nods, expression returning to muted contemplation. ] Yeah. I didn't have any luck that day finding anything to do with dinosaurs that... seemed right, so I went out again another day. [ He pauses, mulls over something, and then adds, with a fair amount of amusement in his tone: ] I remembered my umbrella that time, at least.

[the clear amusement in kenma's voice makes tsukishima flash a smile when he answers.] Ah, I'm glad for that. You would have had to be very sneaky if I needed to come pick you up after you bought my birthday present.

[ Another nod, a quirk to his lips; that would have indeed made things a lot more difficult. ] I probably would've just waited until the rain stopped, or walked through it. [ And probably gotten himself sick because of his poor choice in the lesser of two evils - being sneaky like that sounds like too much work. Kenma deliberates over his next words for a few moments, before making an offer despite not knowing what other plans Tsukishima might have. As such, he's prepared for a decline. ] If you're not busy, maybe later we can play a game together, through the network. If you want to, too, I mean.

[tsukishima nudges him gently with his knee.] Please don't ever get yourself sick on my account. [that's pretty much guaranteed to happen if kenma tried to walk all the way home through the rain.]

Ah, and that...sounds really nice. I didn't make any plans for today. My family doesn't really do anything for my birthday anymore, so it's usually just another normal day. [it felt gross and wrong to celebrate without akiteru, and his parents said nothing (at least, to his face) about his decision to distance himself as much as possible from them. therefore, no birthdays.]

[ The sincerity of that entreaty spoken to him has Kenma bowing his head slightly in apology, and though he doesn't answer it's clear that he'll be keeping that wish in mind, not disregarding it. ] Okay. I won't go easy on you even if it's your birthday. [ Both corners of his lips upturn further, and his gaze glimmers with excitement. ] Text me whenever you feel like playing.

[tsukishima returns that small smile with a smirk of his own.] I'd be offended if you ever went easy on me. Please wipe the floor with me as usual.
