[tsukishima clears his throat, covering his mouth with the back of his hand as he tries to get his blushing cheeks under control. it's stupid, to be so embarrassed about this when they've already been dating for months now, but...it seems like the sort of thing a girl would want or get excited about, and while he's comfortable with his sexuality and gender, he also can't help but get flustered sometimes.]

Are you sure? We can do something else if you want. I know this is kind of out of the blue...

[ It's so shockingly cute, Kenma's at an utter loss, and he almost wishes he were taller just for the easier opportunity to pull Tsukishima's hand away, kiss his blushing cheeks.

Still, he moves closer to stand at his side, leaning into him amiably as he lifts a hand, fingers curling into the back of his boyfriend's shirt as he looks at the cake with a pleased, narrowed gaze. ]

I'm fine with it. If we can come back and play games after.

[with kenma standing by his side, it's easy to feel less embarrassed. the other is looking at the cakes that he carefully removes from their boxes, not at his face. it makes him feel less overwhelmed with nerves.]

Mm, that sounds like a plan. Do you want to go after we've eaten our cake?

[ He shrugs, lifting his shoulders in a sign of his nonchalance towards their plans. ]

It doesn't really matter. We can eat later, and go now, if you want to. [ He does glance up then, as if to check Tsukishima's reaction and decision with his eyes as much as with his ears. ]

[tsukishima looks sheepish, but at least it's not the full-blown mortification from earlier.]

Now that we have the cake out...I don't think I can wait. It looks so good.

[ The corner of his lips quirks up before he gives a nod of agreement. ]

Let's eat then. [ But quickly, before that, Kenma gives a few tiny tugs at the other's shirt, leaning up on his toes. He can't reach Tsukishima on his own for a kiss, so he'll need him to bend down a bit. ]

[it's easy to understand what the little tugs at his shirt mean; it happens many times whenever they're together. his sheepish look fades into one of affection, and he obligingly bends down so he can press his lips to kenma's.]

Thanks again for the cake.

[ It's warm, and soft, just as it always is, leaving a tingling feeling on his lips as he lingers close to Tsukishima for a few more moments before dropping back onto his heels.

His smile is a little more pronounced then. ]

It's nothing. I was craving some anyway.

[he hands the plate with kenma's slice on it to the boy, and his chest feels a little warmer knowing that he's the reason that beautiful, soft smile is there.]

Far be it from me turn down cake if you bought it for yourself. I'm so benevolent.

[ He takes the plate with a brightening of his gaze before he turns up his nose. ]

Shouyou and your team would disagree. [ Dryly teasing, but the murmur that comes from him after is far more genuine, honest. ] But I know you can be.

[he snorts, taking his own plate and moving to sit at the table.]

Don't you dare tell them, I have a reputation to uphold.

I doubt they'd believe me.

[ But the response gets a huff of laughter from Kenma as he follows, sitting across from his boyfriend. It doesn't take him long to start digging in, stuffing his cheeks with numerous spoonfuls, speaking around it seemingly without care for politeness. ]

Did you have a specific place in mind to go? For the present you mentioned.

[pfffft.]

I think you're right. I don't think anyone who's met me understands how you put up with me.

[he digs into his cake, but without kenma's enthusiasm. it's cute, how he stuffs his cheeks almost like a chipmunk or other adorable, small animal. truthfully he's just as excited for the sweet treat, but the table manners his mother spent so much time scaring into him are hard to forget.]

Ah, there's...a small jewelry shop in the shopping district that I had in mind.

People could say the same the other way. I'm sure they have to Kuro before. [ Along with the fact that he spoils him, lets him get away with things he shouldn't. He knows he isn't the most easy to get along with because of his apathy and personality in general.

Kenma's gaze flicks up at that, eyebrows lifting in his curiosity. ]

We're getting jewellery then?

[he looks perplexed.]

But you're so cute. It'd be like getting frustrated with a kitten.

[and oh, there's his blush again, he hadn't missed that.]

Um, not anything flashy, but...yes.

[ His brows furrow, a surprised sort of indignation appearing on his face in the face of his own embarrassment. ]

I-... I am not.

[ Kenma picks at a piece of his dessert for a moment contemplatively, and then scoops it into his mouth. ]

I've never worn some. It'll take getting used to, but it should be fine.

[he smirks.]

Totally are. I bet anyone on your team would agree. And don't worry, I promise it won't be something heavy or cumbersome that'll get in your way.

That's hardly fair, they'd agree just because we're Nekoma.

[ Stabbing at his food now, puffy cheeks noticeably flushed. ]

Okay. I'm glad. It would be tiring to wear something like that.

[he makes a face at him for being difficult.]

I don't want you to make you tired, so we'll make sure that it works for you. It'd be kind of a bad gift otherwise.

[ Kenma frowns, gaze shifting from one side to the next before he stretches his legs out under the table, entwining them with the other's. ]

I just don't get why you think I'm cute. [ He sounds apologetic about it though. ]

I know. You're always considerate of me. I appreciate it, even if I don't say it often.

[kenma's legs are shorter than his are, so he extends his legs to help fascilitate the contact. it's nice to be able to touch him when they're both busy eating their cakes.]

Well, small things are usually pretty sure. [sorry, it's true.] You like warm places, and things that are too big for you, and you get really into the games you play and kind of excited when you see Hinata. [a helpless shrug.] It's cute.

[he rests his foot against kenma's ankle.] You're welcome. It comes easy.

[ He's pleased by it, the warmth and comfort that contact between them gives, though the satisfied expression soon morphs into one of being distinctly flustered.

Fidgeting with his spoon, tucking hair behind an ear with his other hand. ] I... I get excited when I see you, too.

[ Mumbled. ]

And I think you're cute in your own ways.

[ugh that's so cute. it makes him blush, and he wasn't conceited enough to say as much out loud, but it makes him happy to hear all the same. it's a different kind of excitement, to be sure, but still; to know that someone is happy to see him makes his heart feel warm.

and then he scowls, lips pursing unhappily.]

You sound like Shouyou. That's something he'd call you.

[ But it's a compliment, kind of, probably not in Tsukishima's mind. Kenma looks on the verge of laughter, the sound in his eyes if not made out loud. ]

When you're listening to a song you really like you close your eyes for a while and look really peaceful. You get really happy when you get to eat your favourite cake. If you're embarrassed your ears and the back of your neck turns red.

[ It seems like there could be more that he could say, but he stops. ]

Maybe calling you cute isn't exactly right but... Those are little things I've noticed. Things I like about you.

I'm pretty sure he's called me that before.

[but hinata is the last thing on his mind when kenma starts saying such sweet things. and the way his eyes sparkle, the way he doesn't quite look at him...what did he do to deserve someone like this? someone who didn't just seem him as mean and caustic, but who he was underneath all of that.

and just like kenma predicted, the back of his neck and his ears are so flushed that they feel hot.]

The things that I said were cute about you...those are things I like about you too. [he ducks his head over his cake.] Thank you.
